Timothy Lee “Spanky” Belknap, 38, of Newcomerstown, formerly of New Philadelphia, died peacefully in his family home in Dover Wednesday morning, September 10, 2003. He had valiantly battled cancer for nearly a year. Born in Dover April 29, 1965, he was a son of Jerry R. Belknap and the late Ruth Eleanora Morrison Belknap who died earlier this year, February 7, 2003. Tim grew up in New Philadelphia, and graduated in 1983 from New Phila High School and Buckeye Career Center, where he excelled as a painter. He worked for Haas Body Shop of Dover, Simon-Duplex of Dover and most recently for Howden-Buffalo in New Philadelphia. Tim was a member of the First Church of God of New Philadelphia. In his spare time, Tim could be found working on his Harley Davidson, or tinkering with cars. He was a member of the Tuscarawas Veterans of Foreign Wars, where he enjoyed their popular steak fry’s. He was also a member of the United Steelworkers Union.In addition to his father, he leaves behind a paternal grandmother, Evelyn Belknap of New Philadelphia; sisters Bonnie Belknap of Gnadenhutten, and Dana (Keith) Shaw of New Philadelphia, a brother, Tom (Connie) Belknap of Mineral City, O; aunts Karen (Tim) Fox, Betty (Jim) Romig, Mildred (Joe) Ricklic, Izena (Dale) Couch, Sivilla Gnagy, and Mary Lou Elliott, all of New Philadelphia, as well as Nina (Jim) Haney of Uhrichsville, Hazel (Larry) Carpenter of Marietta, Theresa (Carl) Barger of Hamilton, and Hilda (Ronald) Harding of Smithville; an uncle Duane Belknap of San Diego, CA,; nieces Brandy Arnold, Chelsea Belknap, Allison Hunt, Kim English and April Jones; and nephews Adam Arnold, Kenny and Bryan Shaw, and Michael Belknap; one great-niece, Alexandria Arnold; and one great-nephew Cameron Arnold. Tim is now in a better place with his mother, and maternal grandparents, Isaac and Nellie Morrison, paternal grandfather Raymond Belknap, and two uncles, Robert Morrison and Dave Belknap. Friends may call Friday afternoon from 4 until 7PM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home, New Philadelphia. Pastor Matthew Roe will lead funeral services Saturday afternoon at 1:30PM in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will follow at Ridgecrest Memory Gardens, Dover.
