Thyra J. Roth age 85, entered her heavenly reward late Friday morning, December 2, 2011, from Country Club Retirement Campus where she most recently resided. For much of the past decade, she was a resident of New Philadelphia, and a longtime resident of Uhrichsville. Born at Uhrichsville, March 7, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Charles C. and Velma Verna Cotton Granville. Thyra grew up in Uhrichsville and graduated from high school there with the class of 1944.On September 23, 1945, she married Paul M. Roth. The couple, from the same area of Tuscarawas County, met while at a church outing at Lakeside, and went on to observe fifty-seven years of marriage prior to his death in November, 2002. A homemaker for most of her life, Thyra was a member of Broadway United Methodist Church, and formerly the First United Methodist Church at Uhrichsville. At Broadway, Thyra sang in the church choir, served as the choir librarian, and on occasion accompanied them on the piano and organ. She was also a longtime member of the United Methodist Women, and was a member of the Golden Rule Sunday School Class. Thyra was an auxiliary member of the Tuscarawas County Camp of Gideon’s International, the Sorosis Club and the Ladies Lunch Bunch. Together with her husband, Thyra reared a family of two sons, Tim (wife, Rita) Roth and Dick (wife, Debbie) Roth both of New Philadelphia. She’ll be sadly missed by their five grandchildren, Lori (husband, Paul “P.J”. Jacobson) of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Jennifer (husband, Ethan) Borras of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Leanne Stein of Chicago, Illinois, Bryan (wife, Jackie) Roth of Woodstock, Georgia and Heather (husband, Dave) McClanahan of Ackworth, Georgia. Six great-grandchildren, Evan and Erin Jacobson, Reagan Borras, Jude, Titus and Evy McClanahan also survive. The family also includes brothers-in-law Raymond Roth of Marblehead, Phil (wife, Nancy) Roth of Gnadenhutten and Earl Reifenschneider of New Philadelphia. Half-brothers Kenneth (wife, Nancy) Granville of Streetsboro and Donald (wife, Ruthann) Whitmer of Arizona. In addition to her parents and husband, Thyra is preceded in death by her granddaughter, Anita Jo Roth, two sisters-in-law, Nancy Roth, Jean Reifenschneider; and a brother-in-law, Neil Roth. Friends are invited to call Monday, December 5, from 1-3 and 5-8 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Bill Sowers will lead Mrs. Roth’s funeral service Tuesday morning at 10:30 in Broadway United Methodist Church at 120 Church Street SE New Philadelphia, where the family will also receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow alongside her husband in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery.Following the committal service, family and friends will gather for a reception in Spencer Hall at Broadway United Methodist Church.
