Thresea Mae Stein

Thresea Mae Stein, 87, of New Philadelphia, passed away Friday, March 25, 2016 in the care of Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia.

A daughter of the late Sidney and Pearl (Brown) Holskey, Thresea was born April 17, 1928 in Stonecreek, Ohio.

Thresea grew up in Stone Creek, and continued to live in the community until 1977.  She graduated from Stone Creek High School in 1948, where she was an active member of the band, playing the cornet.

As time went on she became an avid quilter, crocheter and cross-stitcher.  She would make afghans, quilts, and pillow cases for family and friends.  She loved to take car rides into the Amish country with her husband, and making her famous rhubarb pie.  She was an active member of Broadway United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir for many years.

Thresea is survived by her husband, Elmer Stein, whom she married on August 21, 1948; two sons, Ronald (Miriam) Stein and Stephan (Carla) Stein; one daughter, Susan (Randy) Mast; eight grandchildren, Sascha (Chad) Durben, Kara (Mark) Cooper, Hannah (Cody) Addy, Andy (Nicole) Stein, Brandon (Tammi McMath) Stein, Heather (Lamont Cannon) Mast, Heath (Katie) Mast and Amanda (Michael) Feikert and ten great – grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Beatrice Sherrets and one great – grandchild, Nathan Stein.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 from 5 – 7 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia.  A funeral service celebrating Thresea’s life will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at 11 AM in the funeral home with Pastor Mick Foster and Dale Fincher officiating.  Burial will follow in Stone Creek Cemetery.
