Thomas V. “Bobo” Lawler, age 90, of New Philadelphia passed away peacefully in New Dawn Healthcare Center at Dover on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 following a period of declining health.
Born in Cheyenne, Wyoming, on November 22, 1922, he was the son of the late John V. and Caroline (Stockon) Lawler.
After graduating from New Philadelphia High School, Thomas entered the United States Navy where he served in the South Pacific during World War II. Upon his discharge, he briefly attended The Ohio State University at Columbus.
Thomas spent his professional career with Gradall where he worked as a welder for 24 years.
Memberships Thomas held included the New Philadelphia Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. #510 and the New Philadelphia V.F.W. Post #1445.
Throughout his lifetime, he developed a passion for the news and took great pride in his family’s own news publication.
Thomas was adored and loved by his wife, Marie B. Lawler, whom he wed in the First United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia on June 28, 1957. In addition to Marie, Thomas leaves behind his brother, Robert (Colleen) Lawler of Newcomerstown; numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; his twin brother, Malcom and a brother, John Lawler.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2013 from 9:30 – 10:30 AM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A service celebrating Thomas’ life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday at 10:30 AM with Rev. Dr. Steven Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens where members of the Carl C. Stoller Post #1445 of the New Philadelphia VFW will render honors. Following services, all are invited to join the family for a meal and fellowship in the First United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia.
Memorial contributions in Thomas’ memory may be directed to the First United Methodist Church, 201 West High Avenue, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
