Thomas Mackey

Thomas Mackey, age 79 of New Philadelphia, passed away October 11, 2024 in his home surrounded by his loving family, following a period of declining health.

Born April 27, 1945, in Dover, he was the son of the late Harry and Adeline (Gwin) Mackey.

After graduating from high school, he spent several years in the US Marine Corps. He earned the rank of Sargent. He was employed at Miracle Adhesives for over 20 years, then completed his career at Lauren Manufacturing. On June 20, 1970, he married the former Alva Zurcher. Together they enjoyed 54 years of marriage.

Tom loved all the Cleveland sports teams as well as The Ohio State Buckeyes. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with former classmates shooting pool, going on vacations with his family and attending his grandchildren’s numerous sporting events.

He is survived by his wife, Alva; daughter, Dawn Mackey of Uhrichsville; son, Steven (Cindi) Mackey of Dennison; grandchildren, Shantelle Walker, Sydney (Chase) Erickson, Shyanne (Brady Collins) Mackey, and Mallory Mackey; step-grandchildren, Emily (Cody) Mitchell, and Kaitlyn (Tommy) Sasfy; great-grandchildren, Noah, Kyla, Cooper, Dawson, Enoch, and Selah; numerous nieces and nephews; and his cat, Max.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Karl Mackey, Bruce Mackey, Richard Mackey, and Theodore Mackey; and grandsons. Jacob Mackey, Timothy Mackey, and Javon Mackey.

A Celebration of Tom’s Life will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 4:00 PM in Organic Church, 1943 N. Water St. Ext., Uhrichsville, OH. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.
