Thomas Kurtz Gilmore, age 74, of Dennison died Friday, November 11, 2011, in Rose Lane Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at Massillon following a lengthy illness.A son of the late Donald R. and Mary Robinson Gilmore, Tom was born at Uhrichsville, Ohio on June 4, 1937.He was a 1955 graduate of the former Uhrichsville High School and entered into the United States Army where he served with the “505” 82nd Airborne and was part of the 8th Division while stationed in Germany. Upon his discharge, he had earned the rank of Sergeant.In June of 1960, he married the former Carol Loper and together the couple reared four children. For many years Tom worked for the Empire Coal Company as a heavy equipment operator and also worked alongside his father in the family carpentry business.Tom enjoyed many activities during his life which included play cards with his friends at the Y Tavern, collecting scale model antique cars, watching western movies, Jeopardy, and Wheel of Fortune and caring for his cat, Ellie Mae.He leaves behind his children, Eric (companion, Patricia Milburn) Gilmore, Chone (Ray) Burdette, Cherie (Kenneth) Burns; a brother, Donald Gilmore all of Uhrichsville and a son-in-law, Kenny Reichman of Tuscarawas.Ten grandchildren, Derek (Desma) Gilmore, Thomas (Katie) Gilmore, Zachary Gilmore, Raquel (companion, Zachary Laughlin) Pittman, Carl Albert Rypen, Miranda (James) Emig, Kc (Rose) Page, Kendra (Melvin) Jackson, Allie Reichman and Brittany Reichman; 10 great-grandchildren, Ireland, Briley, Dublin, and Bentley Gilmore, Xavier and Chloe Pittman, Londyn Laughlin, Tavin Tripplet, Braden Emig and Ava Page as well as numerous nieces and nephews complete the family. In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his former wife, Carol; a daughter, Carrie Reichman; a sister, Mary C. Reichman; and a brother, Arthur Gilmore.There will be no public visitation or services. Cremation will take place through the care of Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory at Dover. A private inurnment in the West Union Cemetery at Gilmore will take place at a later date.The family suggests memorial contributions in Tom’s name be directed to Crossroads Hospice, 3743 Boettler Oaks Drive, Suite E, Green, OH 44685, or to the Tuscarawas County Humane Society, 6895 Dover Zoar Rd NE, Dover, Ohio 44622.
