Thomas Joseph Massarelli

Thomas Joseph Massarelli, 66, of New Philadelphia passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2015 following a courageous battle with cancer.

A son of the late Carl and Norma (Phillips) Massarelli, Tom was born April 4, 1949 at Dover, Ohio.

Tom graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1967. He then enlisted with the United States Army and was stationed in Korea during the Vietnam War. He was a longtime employee of the City of New Philadelphia and retired in 2006 after 34 years of service.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church at New Philadelphia as well as a member of the New Philadelphia Elks Lodge #510. Tom was an avid golfer and was active in many leagues throughout the area. He enjoyed traveling especially to South Carolina to spend time with his children and also enjoyed attending the sporting events of his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Eileen (Davis) Massarelli whom he married on August 10, 1979; his children, Joey (Stacy) Massarelli and Tony (Jan) Massarelli both of Easley, South Carolina, David (Alona) Stackhouse of Zanesville, Spence (Laurie) Odenbach of New Philadelphia and Lorri (Fred) Lindsay of Stow; his grandchildren, Chandler, Madison, Michael, Madeline, Karlie, Logan, Lucas, Ridge, Ethan, Jessalyn, Breanna, Alexis, Trevor; a brother-in-law, Monty (Sandy) Davis of New Philadelphia; two sisters-in-law, Kay (Lloyd) Ringley of Beverly Hills, Florida and Becky Massarelli of Massillon and numerous nieces and nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Garry Lee Massarelli and a daughter-in-law, Laura Lynn Odenbach.

Visitation will be held on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Father Jeff Coning will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia. Following the committal service a luncheon will be held in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia.
