Thomas Edward Wise, 77, of New Philadelphia, died Tuesday, June 17, 2014 in Union Hospital at Dover following a period of declining health.
A son of the late Walter and Florence (Bambeck) Wise, Tom was born January 31, 1937 at Dover, Ohio.
Tom graduated from St. Joseph High School at Dover in 1955. Then on November 16, 1958, he married the love of his life the former Anna Dapoz. Together, the couple raised three children, Doug who passed away on June 20, 2010 and Sherry and Lisa.
He retired from General Electric in 1997 as a wire drawer. Tom was a man of strong faith and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church at New Philadelphia. He was a true sports fan and was an avid supporter of Tuscarawas Central Catholic sports. He was a former booster club president and served as the timekeeper for basketball games for many years. Tom was an avid supporter of his grandchildren’s sporting events and made it a priority to be in attendance. During his younger years he also volunteered as a little league coach and basketball coach.
When not involved with sports, Tom meticulously cared for his lawn and enjoyed feeding the animals around his home. He was a true family man and he cherished the time spent with them. Most of all he will be remembered for his large heart and his willingness to help and give to others.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Anna Wise; his daughters, Sherry (Bob) Harriff of Dover and Lisa (Bob) Beamer of New Philadelphia; his grandchildren, Emily Wise, Stefanie (Patrick) Monnett and Joey Wise all of Grove City, Ohio, Ben (Sophie Arnold) Harriff of Columbus, Ohio and Brian (fiancée, Amber Petrosky) Harriff of Frisco, Texas and Sami, Brooke and Beau Beamer all of New Philadelphia; two sisters-in-law, Shirley (Jim) Fondriest and Mary Ann Pershing both of Dover; a special uncle, Eugene Donofrio of New Philadelphia and several nieces and nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Doug, a brother, Joe Wise and a sister, Mary Margaret Hollinger.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 20, 2014 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church at New Philadelphia with Father Jeff Coning officiating. In keeping with Tom’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a luncheon will immediately follow mass in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia.
