Thomas E. Larkin, age 78 of Dover, died Thursday evening, February 23, 2012, in his home.
Born November 19, 1933 in New Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Clarence and Emma (Kruse) Larkin.
Tom was a 1953 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. After completing his education, Tom began his career with Timken Roller Bearing. In 1956, Tom formed his own company, Larkin Contractors, which he owned and operated for 54 years.
On August 16, 1997, Tom married the former Susan E. Harris and together they enjoyed traveling, eating out, and attending family parties which included their 11 children, 19 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia, the New Philadelphia Lodge #177 F. & A. M., and a lifetime member of the B.P.O. Elks #510.
In addition to his wife, Susan, Tom is survived by his daughters, Mary (Chuck) Zedi of New Phila., Donna (Mike) Myers of Strasburg, Brenda Murphy of New Phila., Barb (Mark) Cline of Gnadenhutten, Cindy (Bill) Britton of Dallas, Texas; and his sons, Thomas Larkin and Darrell (Michele) Larkin, both of Dover.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his daughter, Holly Hursey; his half-sister, Corinne Sullivan; his step-sister, Faye Denzer; and his former wife, Allah Jo Larkin.
The family will receive friends on Monday, February 27, 2012 in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia from 5 to 8 p.m. where a Masonic Lodge of Sorrow will commence at 6:45 p.m.
A memorial service will be held in the funeral home’s chapel on Tuesday, February 28 at 10 a.m. with The Rev. Dr. Steve Bailey officiating. Inurnment will immediately follow the service in East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
Friends are invited to the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall following the burial where Tom’s church family will host a memorial reception.
