Thomas Agler

Thomas Lee Agler, age 76, of Dover, died Monday, May 15, 2023, in New Dawn Retirement Center at Dover following a period of declining health.

Born on October 19, 1946, at Canton, Ohio, Tom was a son of the late Donald C. and Lucille Fisher Agler.

He was a graduate of Fairless High School and entered into the United States Air Force. Upon his discharge, Tom furthered his education at Kent State University where he studied Engineering and Criminal Law. In 1969 he graduated from the Canton Police Academy and was first commissioned by the Beach City Police Department. He also worked for Metro in Stark County and held a commission with Perry Township. In 1973, Tom began working for the Millersburg Police Department and became Sergent in 1977. In October 1977, Tom became the Chief of Police for the Village of Sugarcreek and completed his career on December 31, 2009.

He was a member of the Beach City American Legion, Dover Masonic Tuscarawas Lodge #59 and the Freeport Lodge #415. In his free-time Tom enjoyed spending time in Wisconsin where he fished and watched nature while smoking his pipe and listening to the Loons.

Tom is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Agler, whom he married on April 7, 1995; his children, William Agler of Akron, Johnathan (Sarah) Agler of Salem, Ohio, Tommy Schall, Jr. of Massillon, and Jennifer (Jeremy) Johnson of New Philadelphia; his grandchildren, Skyler, Autumn, Charlie, Caleb, and Sophie; and his brother, David Agler of Georgia.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by an infant sister.

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no public visitation or services. Cremation care has been arranged by the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. Tom will be laid to rest in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
