Thomas A. Holmes, 79, of New Philadelphia, died Friday, January 14, 2005 at his residence. A son of the late Percy and Ruth McKnight Holmes, Thomas was born June 7, 1925, in Massillon, O. He had been a crane operator for the former I. F. Manufacturing of New Philadelphia, and had attended the First United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia. Thomas had a great love of sports. He enjoyed football, camping and fishing. Thomas is survived by his wife, E. Jean Hunter Holmes whom he married June 13, 1953; son, Thomas A. Holmes, Jr., of Columbus, O.; daughter, Barbara (Bill) Crouch, of Mequon, WI.; grandson, William Holmes; granddaughters, Raejean Wyre, Shannon Stoker, Erin Hoffer and Allison Voeller; great grandchildren, Christian, Marynette and William Holmes, Zack and Hunter Wyre, Sarah and John Stoker; a sister, Evelyn (Cliff) Redinger, of CA.; and a brother, Arnold (Alice) Holmes, of New Philadelphia. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dennis; two brothers and three sisters. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 18, 2005 in the chapel at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory of New Philadelphia with Rev. Dr. Steven R. Bailey officiating. A memorial luncheon will follow at the First United Methodist Church. In accordance with Thomas’s wishes cremation will follow the funeral service.
