Theresa K. Harr, 87, a 3-year resident of New Philadelphia, died peacefully surrounded by her family, Friday, May 7, 2004, at New Dawn Retirement Community in Dover.Born September 13, 1916 in Washington County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Elija and Mary Melvina (Droke) King. After graduating from high school, Theresa continued her formal education at the Business College in Bristol, Tennessee. Prior to retirement, she worked for both the Volunteer State Life Insurance Company and Tennessee Electric Company as a secretary. For more than thirty years, Theresa was a devout member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Largo, Florida. There, she was active in the sewing circle and bible studies. After moving to Ohio with her daughter and son-in-law, she became a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in New Philadelphia. Most importantly, Theresa was a mother, grandmother, and friend. She taught many invaluable lessons to those she loved, but most importantly, she taught the importance of finding something good in every person. Her wisdom and selflessness will long be remembered in the hearts of those she touched. Theresa will be missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Janie and Larry Jones of New Philadelphia; six grandchildren, Tracey (Bryan) Newman of Pickerington, Ohio, Derek (Theresa) Jones of Dunedin, Florida Robert (Karen) Lawson of Herndon, Virginia, Amy Lawson of Springfield, Virginia, David (Susie) Lawson of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Linda (Chris) Williams of Bristow, Virginia; six great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mary King; and numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, Theresa was preceded in death by her two husbands, Robert K. Lawson in 1961 and Benjamin R. Harr in 1985, her son, Robert Lawson, and four brothers.The family will receive friends at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home on Sunday, May 9, from 2 to 5 p.m. Pastor Michael E. Walters and Church Council will conduct a brief service beginning a 4:45 p.m. Following Sunday’s visitation, Theresa and her family will return to her hometown, Bristol, Tennessee, where visitation will be held at the Akard Funeral Home on Tuesday from 12 to 2 p.m. and a graveside service will immediately follow at Mountain View Cemetery.In appreciation for Hospice’s exemplary care, Theresa’s family requests that memorial contributions be made in to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 W.
