Theodore “Ted” Wayne Canfield, 82, of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully in Community Hospice Truman House on June 17, 2018, following a short period of declining health.
Born at McArthur, Ohio on July 18, 1935, he was the son of the late Noah Parks and Maude Dale (Murphy) Canfield.
On August 5, 1956 Ted married the late Kathryn Jane Leggett. The family’s faith has been nurtured for many years at Schoenbrunn Moravian Church.
Ted was “The Culligan Man” for 20 years. He then continued working in the water purifying and reclamation business founding his own company, Water and Soil Control in 1978. Ted was active in the Gideons and served as president of the Midvale Lions Club in the 1960s.
Through the years, Ted and Kathryn enjoyed trips in their various campers with their last being a BornFree motor home. Memorable trips included attending the January 1, 2000 Tournament of Roses Parade, returning from Nova Scotia just days before 9-11 and the countless memories made with his family and grandchildren during trips to Disney World.
Ted leaves behind his children, Jennifer (Michael) Spies of Dover and Rebecca Canfield of Dennison; his grandchildren, Elizabeth, Sarah, and Matthew Spies all of Dover and McKenna and Jacob Cannon both of Dennison; as well as numerous nieces and nephews; and his sister, Neva Rees of Marietta.
In addition to his parents and wife, Ted was preceded in passing by 10 siblings.
A Celebration of Ted’s life will be held in Schoenbrunn Moravian Church on Saturday, July 14, 2018 beginning at 11 AM. Ted’s family will host a light luncheon in the church fellowship hall after the service where they encourage friends and family to share stories with them.
