Theodore Roy Wenger, Sr, Age 81, of New Philadelphia, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008 in Country Club Retirement Center at Dover following a lengthy illness.A son of the late Daniel Christian and Elizabeth (Kohler) Wenger, Ted was born April 6, 1926 at New Philadelphia, Ohio.In 1944, Ted enlisted with the United States Marine Corps. He served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II.Following his honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, Ted married the love of his life, the former Dorothy Russell, on September 25, 1948. Together the couple reared four children, Judy, Delilah, Theodore Jr, and David. He will be remembered by his family as a hard working man. Ted was employed with Stone Creek Brick for twenty years and retired from the former I.F. Manufacturing Company.Ted was a member of the First Assembly of God Church at New Philadelphia. He was an avid woodworker and he enjoyed walking and riding his bike. His greatest treasures in his life however were his grandchildren.He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Dorothy Wenger; his daughters, Judy (Dale) Fincher and Delilah Ryan both of New Philadelphia; his sons, Theodore (Kimberly) Wenger Jr and David (Tonie) Wenger of Frederick, Colorado; five grandchildren, Tanya (Pete) Toland of Columbus, Ohio, Tina (Tom) Marchetti of Marysville, Ohio, Jessica C. (Jim Huth) Ryan of Miami, Florida, Teddy Wenger III of Van Nuys, California and Christian Wenger of New Philadelphia; two great grandchildren, Ethan Daniel Toland and Rocco Giovanni Marchetti and four brothers, Dale, Glenn, James and Eugene Wenger.Ted was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and three brothers.Family and friends may call on Monday, March 24, 2008 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. in the First Assembly of God Church at New Philadelphia with Pastor Larry Fletcher officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia with the New Philadelphia V.F.W. Post 1445 conducting military honors.
