Thelma Viola Collins

Thelma Viola Collins, age 86, of Dennison, died early Tuesday, February 02, 2010, in her residence following a period of declining health.A daughter of the late Matthew and Virginia (Therne) Jackson, Thelma was born at Kings Mine located in Guernsey County, Ohio on May 18, 1923.She was a 1942 graduate of Lore City High School and would further her education by attending Cambridge Business College. Thelma proudly served her country during World War II as a member of the Army Air Corps from 1942 Â? 1945. Having been stationed at Eglin Field, Florida, Thelma served as an office manager.On April 18, 1945, Thelma married a young man named Edwin Collins and together the pair would rear two children. In October of 1998, Edwin would precede Thelma in death following 53 years of marriage.As a homemaker, Thelma thrived as she would serve and spend time with her family. She also enjoyed sewing, reading, working on crossword puzzles and caring for her cats. Spending time out doors and enjoying nature walks was another of Thelma’s favorite pastimes.Thelma will be missed by her children, Donna Russell of Dennison, and Allen (Linda) Collins of Hinckley, Ohio; and a brother, Edwin “Babe” Jackson of Cadiz.Five grandchildren, Terry Schupbach, Jeff Russell, Michelle Russell, Shannon (John) Meek and Brian (Abby) Collins, six great-grandchildren, Joshua Hunt, Miranda Hunt, Trevor Russell, Caleb Meek, Erin Meek, and Magelynn Collins as well as numerous nieces and nephews complete the family.In addition to her parents and husband Thelma was preceded in death by five brothers, Arthur, Donald, Harold, Melvin, and Robert as well as a sister, Elverna English.The family will receive guests one hour prior to services on Thursday, February 4, 2010, from 4:00 Â? 5:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Thelma’s daughter-in-law, Linda Collins, will lead a service in the funeral home’s chapel on Thursday beginning at 5:00 PM.The family requests that memorial contributions in Thelma’s name be directed to the Lupus Foundation of America, Inc. 2000 L Street, N.W., Suite 710, Washington, DC 20036.
