Thelma S. Schwartz, 78, of New Philadelphia, died August 15, 2005 at New Dawn Retirement Community in Dover.A daughter of the late Forest C. and Lena (Johnson) Stevens, Thelma was born December 26, 1927 in New Philadelphia, Ohio.She was a 1944 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and a 1947 graduate of Akron General Hospital which was formerly People’s Hospital. She worked as an Industrial Nurse at Joy Manufacturing and also at Union Hospital.Thelma, who was a life member of First United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia, was a co-founder along with her late husband, Dale Schwartz, of Schwartz Home Sales, Inc. and Shel-Mar Estates.On October 28, 1990, Thelma married Donald Saxton. Also surviving are, four children, Marcia Mann of New Philadelphia, Shelly (Abdul) Kahil of Ashburn, Virginia, Steve Schwartz of Key West, Florida and Calvin (Barbara) Schwartz of New Philadelphia; seven grandchildren, Julie Miller, Elizabeth Stevens, Kristin Mann, Steven, Allison and Michael Schwartz, and Ali Kahil; and five great grandchildren, Ashley, Craig, John, Cohen and Ashton.Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, and one brother Dean H. Stevens and one sister, Helen Maxwell Tantrum.Visitation will be Thursday, August 18, 2005 from 5 to 8 pm at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia. Services will be conducted by Dr. Rev. Steven Bailey on Friday at 11am at the First United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia. A luncheon will be held at the First United Methodist Church following the committal.Memorial contributions may be made in Thelma’s name to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 West Third Street, Dover, OH 44622 and/ or The Quaker Foundation, 343 Ray Avenue NW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
