Thelma L. Romig, age 92, of Dover and formerly of New Philadelphia, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 while in the care of Community Hospice House, following a brief illness.
A daughter of the late Perry and Anna (Finnicum) Roudebush, Thelma was born at Harlem Springs, Ohio on February 24, 1923.
Following her graduation from New Philadelphia High School, Thelma went to work in her church. She helped anywhere she was needed and enjoyed working for the Lord.
Looking to further her skills, Thelma attended business college and on October 6, 1956 married William J. Romig. Together the couple had two sons and shared in 45 years of marriage prior to her husband’s death on March 14, 2002.
Most recently, Thelma’s faith was nurtured at the Licking County Church of God. However, she was a founding member of the Wooster Highway Church of God at Dover, which began in her home. Thelma had a giving heart and deep passion for mission work whether it be helping those locally in need or supporting missions in Haiti and the Philippines. In her free time, she enjoyed working in her flower gardens and spent countless hours reading.
She is survived by her son, Bruce (Sherri) Romig of Dover; four grandchildren, Tyler, Taylor, Kierra, and Trent Romig; a sister, Shirley Hulett of Tuscarawas; a sister-in-law, Barb Roudebush of New Philadelphia and her nieces and nephews, who complete the family.
In addition to her parents and husband, Thelma was preceded in death by her son, Douglas Romig; a brother and sister-in-law, Jesse and Faye Roudebush and a brother, Dale Roudebush.
The family will greet guests on Sunday, May 31, 2015 from 3:00 – 6:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Kenneth Yoder will lead a service celebrating Thelma’s life on Monday, June 1, 2015 at 10:30 AM in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial in the East Avenue Cemetery will follow. Following services, all are invited to share in a time of food and fellowship in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the New Philadelphia funeral home.
Memorial contributions in Thelma’s name may be directed to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 716 Commercial Avenue SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
