Thelma Rae Haines, 70, of New Philadelphia, passed away in her home Saturday, September 27, 2003 surrounded by her family after a courageous 4-year battle with cancer.Born January 31, 1933 in New Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Ray and Edna Marie (Rodd) Edwards. After graduating from New Philadelphia High School, Thelma married the late Richard Ray Haines on August 8, 1952. She will long be remembered as a caring and devoted mother and grandmother. In addition to raising her children, Thelma cleaned homes for numerous area residents. She also was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in New Philadelphia and formerly a member of the Tuscarawas County Twins Club and the Tuesday Trio bowling league.Thelma will be sadly missed by her two daughters, Debbie (Companion, Harry Neitzelt) Brown and Becky (Companion, Ross Davis) Ehrhart, both of New Philadelphia; two sons, Leonard Haines of New Philadelphia and Rick (Companion, Peggy) Haines of Akron; her sisters and brothers, Jane (Roland) Kohl of Mineral City, Russell (Jackie) Edwards and Robert Edwards, both of New Philadelphia, Paul (Dorothy) Edwards of Cook, Minnesota, Glenn (Bobbi) Edwards of Pasadena, Texas, Richard (the late Eva) Edwards of Dover; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Weber of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Melissa Day, Troy (Fiancé, Eileen Pratt) Day, and Derek McAbier all of New Philadelphia, Cory Haines of Canton, and Zared Haines of Bolivar; and one great-grandson, Taylor Joseph Day; and several nieces and nephews.In addition to her husband who passed away on October 15, 1989 and her parents, a sister, June Weber and one nephew, Phillip Edwards, preceded her in death.A service of remembrance will be held Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at 11:00 AM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Glen Shedlock officiating. Following the committal service at Evergreen Burial Park, friends and family are invited to a reception at the Geib Family Center, located adjacent to the funeral home. Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 30, 2003 from 7 � 9 pm at the funeral home.
