The Rev. Lomas Ammon Shuman, 95, of New Philadelphia, went home to be with his Lord on August 21, 2015 in Oak Pointe Care Center in Baltic.
Born in Bannock, Ohio, on March 23, 1920, he was the son of the late Francis E. and Jessie (Calhoun) Shuman.
As a young man, Lomas courageously and proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II, most notably serving in Normandy on D-Day. He was decorated with numerous medals for his service.
Lomas spent his professional career working for Gradall until his retirement in 1982. He also shared the gospel throughout the community and was a faithful member of the First Church of the Nazarene in New Philadelphia.
He will be deeply missed by his children, Mary Russell of Dover, Ruthie (David) Carpenter of Dalton, Ohio, and Bill (Connie) West of New Philadelphia; 6 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Seaward Shuman of New Philadelphia and Francis “Archie” Shuman of Mineral City; several nieces and nephews; and many close friends who called him “Pop”.
Lomas was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Catherine Pealy; his second wife, Isabelle Margaret Shuman; 6 siblings; and his son-in-law, Barry Russell.
Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. A service will be held Friday at First Church of the Nazarene in New Philadelphia beginning at 10:30 a.m. with Pastors Jason Caddy and John Leaf officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park where the New Philadelphia VFW Post #1445 will render military honors.
Friends are invited to the church fellowship hall following the committal service where Lomas’ church family will host a reception.
