Terry Lynn Burrier

April 8, 1946 — October 30, 2014

Terry Lynn Burrier, 68, of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully in Union Hospital and entered Heaven to be with the Lord, on Thursday, October 30, 2014, with his wife and daughter by his side, following a courageous and hard fought battle with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

Terry was born in Newcomerstown, Ohio on April 8, 1946, a son of Sylvia Arlene (McCormick) Burrier and the late Archie Harry Burrier.

Terry graduated from Newcomerstown High School in 1964, Terry continued his education at a business college in Columbus. He retired from Arizona Chemical, formally Union Camp, after 40 dedicated years of service.

After high school, Terry received an honorable discharge from the Army after serving his country in the Vietnam War. On October 5, 1985, he married his best friend, the former Elaine Deloris Sproull, and recently celebrated 29 years of marriage. Together, they rejoiced with the birth of their daughter, Sherry. Throughout his lifetime, he was a very devoted and loving husband and dad.

Terry’s faith was nurtured in the former Foursquare Gospel Church in Newcomerstown and the First Presbyterian Church in New Philadelphia. At home, he greatly enjoyed reading his Bible and also the local newspaper.

Terry’s gracious and kind heart was seen through his volunteer efforts with Union Hospital’s Meals on Wheels program for 5 years and the Dover-New Philadelphia Food Pantry, where he served for a number of years. Terry always thought of others and was willing to help everyone.

He also took great pride in mowing and tending to his well kept yard. He enjoyed sight-seeing and taking long drives to enjoy the beautiful colors of fall and decorating his home with pumpkins and mums. He also liked watching the glistening snow fall out his window at home. Terry was also an avid Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Indians fan. However, most important was the time he spent with his wife, daughter, and family.
Throughout his illness, Terry never complained and was always willing to push forward to live life to the fullest. He was truly a strong fighter until his passing.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Elaine; his daughter, Sherry Burrier of New Philadelphia; his sisters, Sandy Chaney, Pat (Gary) Shryock, and Karen (Denny) Durben; his sister-in-law, Ellen Sproull; his brother-in-law, Ron (Nancy) Sproull; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held in Dover Burial Park with Pastor James E. Reed officiating.

The Terry Burrier family is greatly appreciative of the wonderful care provided to him at Union Hospital throughout his many stays there.
