Terry Lee Smales

Terry Lee Smales, age 62, of Dover, died peacefully Wednesday, December 8, 2010, in his home, with his family at his side, following a brief illness.A son of Mary Funk Smales Schlanger of Columbus, Ohio and the late Leroy C. Smales, Terry was born at Columbus, Ohio on December 10, 1947.Terry was a graduate of Hamilton High School at Columbus and entered into the United States Army in September, 1966, and proudly served our country during the Vietnam War.On October 11, 1969, Terry married the former Renee Magyar, with whom he recently celebrated 41 years of marriage. As a couple they reared two sons. Terry began his career with GTE as a telephone lineman and ultimately retired from Verizon Telephone following 30 years of service. Following his retirement, he worked for Park Village Health Care Center, TeleData Systems, and most recently was employed by Horizons, Inc. of Dover.An avid fan of the Cleveland Brows, Terry enjoyed classic 1957 Chevrolets, working around his home in the garden and in the garage and listening to the “Oldies”. Above all, Terry cherished the time spent with his family and friends. He was always willing to help anyone in need, often putting the needs of others before his own. Through the years, Terry had many friends and touched many lives. He was a very giving and caring man who took great pride in everything he did.In addition to his mother and wife Renee, Terry leaves behind two sons, Lee (Kalle) Smales of Bellevue, Nebraska and Scott (Melody) Smales of Dalton, Ohio; two sisters, Jackie DeVaney of Thornville, Ohio and Delores Mazour of Hastings, Nebraska; mother and father-in-law, Emma and Edward Ciersezwski; brother-in-law, Ed (Carolynn) Ciersezwski all of Norwalk, Ohio; and a sister-in-law, Denise Meek of Fremont, Ohio.Completing the family are two grandsons, Kenny Harris and Ryan Smales; three granddaughters, Kaylen (Joe) Stockton, Ramsey Smales, and Sunceya Murphy; two great-granddaughters, Emma and Annabella Stockton and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will celebrate Terry’s life by greeting guests on Sunday, December 12, 2010, from 1-4 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover with Chaplain Ray Ulrich leading a funeral service on Sunday at 4PM. Members of the Dover VFW Post #3463 will present military honors. Following the service, the family would like to invite guests to join them in the Hospitality Room of the Dover Funeral Center where a meal and fellowship will be shared.Those unable to attend may send the family personal condolences by signing the online guest registry located on the funeral home’s website.
