Teresa Jo McLaughlin, age 54 of Weirton, West Virginia and formerly of Fairfield Township, Dover, died Wednesday, November 5, 2014, in Acuity Specialty Hospital at Steubenville, following a hard fought and courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Union Hospital at Dover on August 21, 1960, Terri, as she was known by family and friends, is a daughter of Sandra (Hugh) Miskimin of New Philadelphia and the late Eugene Zurcher.
A 1978 graduate of New Philadelphia High School, Terri worked for the Tuscarawas County Child Support Enforcement Agency for 17 years. Later, she was employed by Giant Eagle, Berry Fit Company and worked for a period of time for the Tusky Valley Middle School Cafeteria.
For many years, she was an active supporter of the Mineral City Baseball Association and if there was a sporting event of any kind happening, Terri was sure to be watching from home or cheering on her favorite teams from the stands. Her passion for sports continued even after the family relocated to the Weirton area in 2010; where Terri joined and supported area booster clubs until her health began to decline. In addition to watching sporting activities, Terri also bowled on numerous leagues throughout her lifetime.
Additionally, she was an avid reader and greatly enjoyed being out of doors and camping with her family, and spending as much time as possible with all of them.
In addition to her mother and step-father, Terri will be missed by her husband of 22 years, Michael McLaughlin, whom she married on November 23, 1991; their children, Hunter McLaughlin and Haley McLaughlin of the home, her mother-in-law, Darlene McLaughlin; siblings, Tim (Flora) Zurcher, Lisa (Terry) Schott, Shari (Gary) Hootman, Gary Miskimin, Janice (Howard) Howell, Scott (Jennifer) Miskimin, Mark (Marla) Miskimin, Connie (Mike) Muzechuck, Christine (Mark) Jenei and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her father, Terri was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Joseph McLaughlin.
A memorial visitation will take place on Saturday, November 8, 2014 from 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover where a service celebrating Terri’s life will begin at 12:30 PM. Inurnment will follow in the Dover Burial Park.
In appreciation for their compassionate care and attention, the family requests memorial contributions in Terri’s name be directed to the Tony Teramana Cancer Center, 3204 Johnson Rd, Steubenville, Ohio 43952.
