Ted C. McClung, age 82 of New Philadelphia, died Sunday, September 22, 2013 in Aultman Hospital at Canton following a sudden illness.
A son of the late Carl D. and Florence (Pine) McClung, Ted was born at Marion, Ohio on January 22, 1931.
Following graduation from Marion-Harding High School Ted began working for GTE and was drafted into the United States Army. He served as a member of the communications team while stationed in Korea and was discharged in February of 1953 having earned the rank of Technical Sergeant.
Upon his discharge, Ted returned to GTE and worked as a lineman and ultimately served the company as an operations supervisor until his retirement; following more than 35 years with the firm.
On July 9, 1954, Ted married the former Margaret “Peg” Rinderle and as a couple reared three children.
Ted enjoyed attending the sporting events of his children and grandchildren; golfing, hunting, fishing, and bowling. Ted was a diehard fan of the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians, and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Additionally, he was a lifetime member of the Zoar Road Gun Club, and the Carl C. Stoller Post #1445 of the New Philadelphia VFW.
In addition to his wife of 59 years, Ted is survived by his children, Susan (Chris) Fehring and Todd McClung; grandchildren, Sean McClung, A.J. DeLeon, Ian (Candice) Fehring, Alexandra Fehring, Kyle McClung, Kara (Ben) Demana, and Kurt McClung; four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Ted was preceded in death by a son, David McClung, and his siblings, Paul McClung and Jean McGuire.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory where members of the New Philadelphia VFW will render military honors. A graveside service led by Ted’s nephew, Pastor Tim McGuire will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel Heights Memory Gardens at Marion, Ohio.
The family requests memorial contributions in Ted’s name be directed to the Carl C. Stoller Post #1445, 441 Park Avenue NW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
