Sylvia Lucille Jones, age 69, of New Philadelphia, passed away at home early Saturday morning, surrounded by her loving family due to complications of ALS. Born at New Philadelphia, June 23, 1940, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Almeda Jane Dawson Reynolds. Sylvia grew up in an era when the Polio virus was deadly. She contracted the dreaded disease, but survived, having been cared for in the family home at Goshen. For most of her life, she worked as a nurses aide in area nursing homes, including the former East Avenue Nursing Center. She’ll be remembered by her family for her love of driving her car and singing karaoke. Sylvia will be dearly missed by her daughter Joann McCune and her companion Randy Ryan of Dennison, two sons; Charles Jones and Harold “Buddy” Jones, all of New Philadelphia. Grandchildren include Connie McCune of Dover, Harley Horn of Canton, Jessica Jones of Dover, April Tolloti of New Philadelphia, David Jones of Dover, Justin Jones, Corey Miller and Josh Tolloti, all of New Philadelphia. Seven great-grandchildren and a former daughter-in-law; Tara Jones of Florida, also survive. Sylvia knew the importance of family, having grown up in a very large household. Survivors also include four sisters, Viola Walton of New Philadelphia, Ruth Crites of Bolivar, Sadie Orr of Tuscarawas, Shirley Burnem of Gnadenhutten, four brothers; Delbert Reynolds of Barnhill, Dale Reynolds of New Philadelphia, Vernon Reynolds of Texas and Roy Reynolds of Mineral City, and a child Sylvia babysat and cared for as her own; Nicole McKayhill of New Philadelphia, also survives. In addition to her parents, Sylvia is preceded in death by two sisters; Phyllis Richardson and JoAnn Carol Reynolds, two brothers Jasper and Charles Bud Reynolds, and her former husband, Harold F. Jones. Friends are invited to call Monday from 4PM â?? 7PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Brian Flood will lead a funeral service celebrating Sylvia’s life, Tuesday at 10:30AM in the funeral home’s chapel. Interment will follow at Evergreen Burial Park.Family and friends will gather for a reception following the committal service in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home.
