Sylvia J. Cross

Sylvia Jean Cross, 81, of Dover, passed away peacefully at Park Village Healthcare Center on February 1, 2024 following a period of declining health.

Born in Wyandotte, Michigan on March 15, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Mable Faye (Sperling) James.

After completing her formal education, Sylvia married her late husband, Larry Cross, on November 14, 1959. They enjoyed their lifelong membership at Sugarhill Wildlife Club where they spent time with family and friends camping. Sylvia loved to work on her family genealogy and was a member of the Genealogical Society in Uhrichsville. Additionally, she spent many hours playing card games, board games, and reading.

Sylvia will be deeply missed by her children including Larry W. Cross of New Philadelphia, Tina (Sheldon) Rainsburg of Dennison, Dianna (Timothy) Whytsell of New Philadelphia, and Jeanie (James) Turnbull of Midvale; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Erma Olhler, Dewey James, Carl (Barbara) James, Carolyn Barker, David (Susan) James, and Larry James; her sister-in-law, Jo James; brother-in-law, Patrick Alexander; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Sylvia was preceded in death by her grandson, Clint Daniel Rainsburg; and her siblings, Kenny James, Harold James, and Margaret Alexander.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 10 at 11:30 a.m. in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover, 5600 N. Wooster Ave., with a reception immediately following in Geib’s hospitality room.
