Susan Janet Colburn-Taylor

Susan Colburn-Taylor, age 43, of Dover, and until last autumn a resident of New Philadelphia, died Thursday afternoon, February 16, 2006, in Union Hospital at Dover following at valiant lifelong battle with juvenile diabetes. Born at Dover, New Jersey, August 21, 1962, she moved to New Philadelphia with her parents and brother while still an infant. Growing up, Susan attended New Philadelphia High School and Buckeye Joint Vocational School where she studied horticulture. Following graduation in 1981, she attended the Tuscarawas Campus of Kent State University. During high school, Susan worked at Granato’s pizza, and more recently in retail sales at Sears. Susan took joy in being an aunt to two wonderful nieces, Julie Lynn Colburn and Katie Marie Colburn, both of Dover. Beyond her family, Susan opened her home to foster children years ago Â? until complications of juvenile diabetes prevented her from continuing as a foster parent. For the past forty-three years, Susan’s life has been a gift for her mother, Barbara Love Colburn, who cared for and resided with her daughter at Dover.She’ll be sadly missed by her brother, Robert W. Colburn, Jr. and his wife Debbie, of Dover, as well as her uncle, Palmer and wife Betty Love of Uhrichsville, and aunt Margaret Love of Tuscarawas. Numerous cousins also survive. Susan was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Horace and Lena Love, and paternal grandparents Roy and Grace Colburn, as well as two uncles, Jack A. Love and Robert G. Love. Friends are invited to call Monday, February 20 from 5 until 8 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. The Rev. Glenn Shedlock will officiate Susan’s funeral ceremony Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will follow at Evergreen Burial Park. A reception for family and friends will follow the committal service in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home. In recognition of her tenacious struggle with juvenile diabetes, contributions to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation at 6971 Promway Avenue NW, Canton, OH 44720 are encouraged by the family.
