Susann K. Erwin Rimer, age 64, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully early Saturday morning, January 28, 2012, in Mercy Medical Center at Canton. Born at Dover, March 15, 1947, she was a daughter of the late William and Margaret Tschudy Erwin. A 1965 graduate of New Philadelphia High School, Susann went on to study home economics at Ohio University, earning her BS in 1969. The next autumn, she joined the faculty at Bradford High School teaching home economics. Soon, Susann returned to the classroom herself, earning her Masters in Education from Wright State University. Susann left Bradford and resided in the Tallmadge area serving as a substitute teacher until she joined the Ohio State University Agricultural Extension Office at Coshocton. Following two years, she was promoted to the Trumbull County extension office, working closely with 4-H students and advisors alike until her retirement in the last decade. At home, Susann enjoyed playing bridge, and tending to her lovely flower gardens. She enjoyed life on the beach with her family and friends as well as bird watching. Susann was a familiar face to her neighbors, having served for several years as a pollworker for the Tuscarawas County Board of Elections. She’ll be long remembered and dearly missed by her husband, Robert Rimer of New Philadelphia, and her three siblings; brother Scott (wife, Phyllis) Erwin of Ashland, sister Sherry Buehler of Dover, and brother William Steven (wife, Theresa) Erwin of Aurora, CO. Her step-mother, Ramona Erwin and her family also survive. Three step-sons, seven step-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews complete the family. Cremation is planned. There are no calling hours or services scheduled. Susann knew well the value of lifelong learning, and in her own way, paid it forward to others. Accordingly, memorial contributions may be made to the New Philadelphia Quaker Foundation PO Box 627 New Philadelphia, OH 44663, or to the donor’s favorite charity.
