Steven B. Yarnell, 47, of Stow and formerly of New Philadelphia, died peacefully on Friday, September 3, 2010 at his home following a 19 month battle with brain cancer.A son of Mary (Woodworth) Yarnell of New Philadelphia and the late Leon “Scorp” Yarnell, Steve was born November 18, 1962 in Union Hospital at Dover.Steve graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1981. He continued his formal education at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio graduating with a degree in accounting in 1985.Early in his professional career, Steve worked in public accounting. He was currently working as a controller for Dairy Farmers of America at Medina, OH and prior to that he served as the Vice President and Controller for 4 Wheel Drive at Columbiana, Ohio.He was an avid tennis player and was a member of the tennis teams in both high school and college. Steve’s true passion in life was bicycling. In 1986, along with his father and best friend, Jeff Loos, Steve took part in a cross country bicycling trip. He also collected model trains and enjoyed riding in his 2008 Corvette with his nephew, Brent.A special time in Steve’s life took place in March 2010 when he was able to proceed with a long awaited vacation to Hawaii accompanied by his mother, Mary and nephew, Brent.In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son, Nathaniel Yarnell of the home; a brother, Mark (Paula) Yarnell of New Philadelphia; a niece, Erica (Nic) McCoy of Dover; a nephew, Brent Yarnell of New Philadelphia; an aunt, Lois Moore of New Philadelphia ; his cousins, Gary (Pam)Yarnell of Dover, Ingrid Yarnell of Columbus, Vicki (John) Garbrandt of New Philadelphia, Dianna Clark of Dover, Sandra Teter of New Philadelphia, Lucinda (Mike) Fleming of Canton and Ginger Dehus of Newark and his dear friend, Jeff Loos of New Philadelphia.The family will receive guests on Monday, September 6, 2010 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia and again one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. A funeral service celebrating Steve’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 in the funeral home chapel with Pastors Jeffrey Gerber and Jill Lovett officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Following the committal service, a memorial reception will be held in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia.The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. David Peereboom and his staff at the Cleveland Clinic and to Hospice of Western Reserve for their exemplary care.Contributions may be made in Steve’s memory to Hospice of Western Reserve, 4670 Richmond Road, Warrensville Heights, OH 44128.
