Stephen W. White, 68, of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully in Union Hospital on Thursday, April 11, 2013, following a period of declining health.
Born in Dover on January 1, 1945, to the late Betty Ann (White) Estes, he was the son of the late Delbert and Sadie (Baltzel) White.
After graduating from New Philadelphia High School, Stephen joined the National Guard.
He spent his entire professional career with the Tuscarawas County Road and Bridge Department, ultimately retiring as the section boss for the Stone Creek and Newport areas.
On July 10, 1969, Stephen married the former Kay Ann Herron. Together, they enjoyed spending summers at Atwood Lake camping, fishing and celebrating summer holidays with their family. Stephen also loved the game of baseball and rabbit hunting with his son, Albert, and his beagles.
His faith was nurtured at Roxford United Methodist Church where he and Kay were members.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Kay; his children, Albert (Kim) Butcher of Tuscarawas, Allison (Jim) Sokowoski of Midvale, and Stephen (Beverly) White, Jr. of Dover; his grandchildren, Bethanny (Jason) Malterer, Lindsay (T.J.) LeMonte, Brooke Colaner, and Brennan (Bailey) Sokowoski; his great-grandchildren, Mason and Kayden LeMonte, and Ayden Colaner; his dog, Teddy; brothers and sisters, George III, Gary and Larry Estes, Linda Hamm, Kathy (Doug) Auflick, and Patricia Estes; sister-in-law, Cathy (John) Edwards; brothers-in-law, John (Sue) Herron, Ralph Herron, and Dick Robertson; and nieces and nephew, Rhonda Gray, Renee Stephens, and Dickie Robertson. Numerous other nieces, nephews, and cousins complete his family.
In addition to his parents, Stephen was preceded in death by his siblings including Mid Robertson, Red White, and Willie Krantz.
Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Sunday, April 14 from 2 to 5 p.m. A service celebrating Stephen’s life will be led by Pastor Ron Heasley in the funeral home’s chapel Monday beginning at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia. Friends are invited to the Roxford Church Family Life Center following the committal service where Stephen’s church family will host a luncheon.
