Stephanie Sue Urfer, age 55, of Brooklyn New York, and formerly of Charlotte, North Carolina, Columbus, Ohio and Dover, passed away following a sudden illness Wednesday, June 16, 2010, in her home. Born at Dover, August 15, 1954, she is a daughter of Kathryn Marsh Medley of Los Gatos, California, and Sam Urfer of Naples, Florida. From an early age, Stephanie had the gift of a beautiful voice and a talent for entertaining others. With the encouragement of her family, who sang together with regularity, Stephanie became active in The Little Theatre of Tuscarawas County, as well as high school musicals and chorus. Following graduation from Dover High School in 1972, she earned her B.A. from The Ohio State University in Music. Stephanie did her graduate studies at Indiana University and the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria. She also studied opera with Virginia Zeani and Irma Cooper. For nearly two decades New York has been home to Stephanie â?? enjoying the vibrant city life from her flat in Brooklyn, her roles in Operas and her regular work serving at Pete’s Waterfront Ale House Bistro. Throughout her life, Stephanie loved the performing arts â?? recently trying her hand at stand up comedy. She sang for many family events, on special occasions and reunions. She was a night owl, her best conversations were at 2AM when she would “hash and rehash” neighborhood gossip and get caught up on family stories. Stephanie was “glue” to many, bringing groups of people together united for a common purpose — to have a great time.We can’t believe we won’t see her great big smile and that glorious head of hair walking through the door again but what we will miss most her laugh!Survivors, in addition to her parents, include her two sisters, Cindy Sealy of Huntsville, Alabama, and Laurie Urfer of Missoula, MT. Nieces and nephew, Sarah Urfer, Kristen Sealy and Shane Sealy. The Rev. Hugh B. Berry will lead services for Stephanie Saturday afternoon, October 2, 2010 at 1PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service. A luncheon reception will follow the service, with a procession to Wallace Lake for the committal of Stephanie’s cremated remains.
