Sondra P. Horton

Sondra P. (Hennis) Horton, 74, of Strasburg, O., and of Lake Placid, Florida where she had wintered the past 14 years, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, Monday, November 21, 2011 in Aultman Hospital in Canton, due to complications from surgery. Born April 21, 1937 in Steubenville, Sondra was a daughter of the late Mildred Schultheis. She graduated from Mingo High School in 1955. On August 9, 1957, she married the love of her life, Glenn L. Horton. Together with Glenn, Sondra loved and nurtured her two daughters, Janet (Dennis) Shreffler of Navarre and JoAnn Horton of Fairlawn, who survive. Her family also includes her sisters, Florence DiPietro of Bloomingdale and Mildred Hartley of Akron; her aunt, Florine Stewart of Steubenville; her brother-in-law, Larry Horton of Canton, O.; and several nieces and nephews. Sondra was a loving wife and mother who was admired and respected by all who knew her. She was a wonderful, caring person, who was always willing to help anyone in need. She cared for her late in-laws, Cris and Larna Horton, during their lengthy illnesses. Two of her many gifts included baking and cooking. Previously, she managed the bakery and deli departments at the former Wilkshire Hills IGA for 6 years. Friends will be received at the Geib Funeral Center at Dover, 5600 N. Wooster Avenue Ext, Dover OH 44622, on Monday, November 28, 2011 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.A service celebrating Sondra�s life will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Christ United Methodist Church, 203 Church Street, East Springfield, O. 43925, with Pastor Joshua Conley officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the church. This is the church where Sondra and Glenn were married over 54 years ago, and where their daughters were baptized.
