Soloman Edward Schwartz

Soloman Edward Schwartz, a lifelong resident of New Philadelphia, died peacefully Thursday afternoon, January 15, 2004, in Morning View Care Center, following a lengthy illness. Born in New Philadelphia March 12, 1918, Soloman was one of seven children born to the late Soloman Edward Schwartz Sr. and his wife Eva N. Wolfe Schwartz. Soloman was a past member at the Broadway United Methodist Church, and the New Philadelphia Moose. He worked for the Y & O Coal Company at Cadiz, Oh, until his retirement in 1983.For more than two decades, he and his family would camp during the summer, enjoying the outdoors, and the fellowship of others at Paradise Lake near Alliance, O. Mr. Schwartz leaves behind a wife of sixty-six years, the former Bessie R. Belknap, whom he married on October 3, 1937. Together, they raised a daughter, Carol (Charles) Geers of Dover; and a son, George E. (Barbara) Schwartz, of New Philadelphia; five grandchildren, Jeoffrey Geers and Terry Geers, both of New Philadelphia, Michael Geers of Dover, Penny Schwartz of Columbus, O., and Kelly Schwartz, also of New Philadelphia. Two great-grandchildren, T.J. Geers and Nathan Geers of New Philadelphia, complete the family. Mr. Schwartz is also survived by a sister, Josephine (Melvin) Hostetler of New Philadelphia; a brother, Leroy Schwartz of New Philadelphia; and a brother-in-law, Charles Glazier of New Philadelphia. In addition to his parents, a sister, Anna Glazier, as well as three brothers, Emmet, George, and Philip Schwartz, proceed Soloman in death. Friends are invited to call Sunday afternoon from 4PM until 7PM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory, New Philadelphia. Elder Glenn Carlisle will officiate a funeral service Monday morning at 11AM in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will follow at East Avenue Cemetery. A reception will be given in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home, following the committal service. The Schwartz family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 4815 Munson Street, N.W., Canton, OH, 44718.
