Sierra S. Hobart

July 20, 1943 — August 21, 2013

Sierra S. Hobart, 70, of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, August 21, 2013 in her home following a period of declining health.

A daughter of the late Glenn and LoVera (Garrett) Malterer, Sierra was born July 20, 1943 at Dennison, Ohio.

A lifelong resident of Tuscarawas County, Sierra graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1961. On June 4, 1966, Sierra married the love of her life, James “Jim” V. Hobart in Community of Christ Church at New Philadelphia.

She retired from Lauren Manufacturing at New Philadelphia after 18 years of service. She was then employed for three years as a cashier at Giant Eagle in Dover. Sierra was a member of Community of Christ Church and was a 35 year member of a card club with her high school class mates.

Sierra was an avid Bingo player and she enjoyed reading, walking and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also cherished the company of her “pride and joy”, her Jack Russell Terrier, Patches.

She is survived by her husband, Jim of the home; her sons, Ronald Hobart of Dover and James “Jimmy” (Michele) Hobart of New Philadelphia; her grandchildren, Josh Hobart and Aaron (Britt) Hobart both of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, Ashlee (companion, Mike Gordon) Hobart and Nick Hobart both of Dover and Tyler Hobart of New Philadelphia and two great grandchildren, Mason and Zoee.

Sierra was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Randy Hobart and a brother, Glenn Malterer Jr.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 24, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Sierra’s life will follow at 12 p.m. in the funeral home with Elder Bonnie Wolfe and Elder Pattie Spears officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park. Following the committal service a luncheon will be held in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia.
