Shirley Lumpcik, 86, of New Philadelphia passed away June 12, 2024 at the Country Club Retirement Campus in Dover following a period of declining health.
Born in Brushy Fork, Ohio on June 11, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Glenn Carson and Rena Alameda (Richardson) Lee. Shirley spoke fondly of her childhood, growing up on the family farm in Harrison County where she cared for her horse named Redfox.
On March 30, 1957, she married the love of her life, the late John James Lumpcik. Together the couple reared five children and celebrated 60 years of marriage prior to his passing.
Shirley’s faith was nurtured at the Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School. She was also a tremendous advocate for mental health, receiving the Robert E. Torgler Award in 1991 for her outstanding contributions and promoting mental health. Shewas also named Outstanding Volunteer. Weekly, she visited the residents of the County Home, bringing love, a listening ear, and encouraging words to them.
Shirley was also a gifted piano player, an avid reader, a gardener, and beautiful sewer. She and John also enjoyed traveling together. Of all of the adventures she took and wonderful talents she enjoyed, Shirley was at greatest peace and felt pure joy when she was caring, cooking, entertaining, loving and supporting her family.
