Shirley Garabrandt

Shirley Jean “Jeannie” Garabrandt, 85, passed away Friday, August 5, 2016 in Country Club Retirement Campus at Dover.

A daughter of the late Henry and Harriet (Jones) Shull, Shirley was born September 11, 1930 at New Philadelphia.

Shirley graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1949.  She retired from the Tuscarawas County Commissioners Office after serving her community for 17 years.   She worked as a church secretary at the Dover Baptist Temple and was also a Sunday school teacher.  Shirley was a member of the Golden Gems, the Dover Baptist Choir and the 1949 Lunch Bunch.  She was one of the five members of the “Jolly Five” with whom they would visit nursing homes in the local area and play music for the residents.  She was a very gifted individual, and would spend much of her time making crafts. Some of her projects included stained glass, ceramics, mice, doilies, quilts, toilet paper dolls, wedding cakes and many more.  She also made clothes for her friends and family, including her daughter’s wedding dress.

She is survived by her daughter, Shelley (Gregory) Foote; her son, Donnie Garabrandt; six grandchildren, Timothy and Christopher Foote, Melissa Miku, Gabriel, Lindsay, and Katie Garabrandt; three great grandchildren, Jeffery and Kendra Foote, and Cole Miku; two half siblings, Linda Bland and Daniel Shull; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 29 years, Clarence “Gabby” Garabrandt; a sister, R Weaver and a grandchild, Jeffrey Foote.

Visitation will be held Saturday, August 13, 2016 from 11 AM to 1 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory.  A service celebrating Shirley’s life will begin at 1PM in the funeral home’s chapel.  Burial will follow at Jerusalem Cemetery.
