Shirley L. Chumney, age 83, of Mineral City, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 3, 2018, while in the care of Community Hospice.
A daughter of the late Walter and Ida Mae (Vogt) Miller, Shirley was born November 11, 1934 in Trail, Ohio.
Shirley married the late Eugene “Gene” Chumney on January 15, 1954 in St. John United Church of Christ in Strasburg and enjoyed 61 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2015.
Shirley was a doting mother who adored her children and grandchildren. Shirley was also a self-taught individual, who enjoyed canning and tending to her flower gardens. She had a green thumb and was able to grow the most beautiful gardens in which she took great pride.
Shirley was also the owner of American View Tours, a career that allowed her the opportunity to teach her tour guests about the Amish culture.
Shirley is survived by her children, LaVonne Debois, Kevin (Janet) Chumney, Tyronne Chumney, Lisa (Lanny) Rosenberry, Gloria (Ron) Lester, and Shonda (Bob) Davis; and her step-son, James (Patti) Williams.
Completing the family are her sister, Gwendolyn Wendling; 19 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Edward Chumney; a daughter, Darla Dee Chumney Allen; and her sister, Donna Jean Lautenschleger.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 6, 2018 from 1 to 4 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover and again one hour prior to services on Monday, May 7, 2018 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM.
