Shirley Ann Haney-Sayre, age 75, formerly of New Philadelphia, died Thursday, March 13, 2008, in Hennis Care Center at Dover.Born March 8, 1933, at New Philadelphia, Shirley’s parents were the late Julius “Dude” and Mable Walbridge Haney.For 16 years, Shirley worked at the former Scio Pottery and later retired after 27 years of service from Miller Studio at New Philadelphia. When she was not playing bingo Shirley could be found keeping herself busy with crocheting projects and watching the television network The Animal Planet.In addition, she loved to feed the wildlife that surrounded her home and on a daily basis could easily spend hours at a time watching them from her front porch.In 1980 Shirley married Alvin Sayre and, for nearly 20 years until his passing in January of 2000, the couple enjoyed each other’s company spending time as best friends.Shirley is survived by two sisters, Nancy Scaffidi and her husband, Sandy of Dover, and Carol Hanks and her husband, Claude also of Dover; a brother, Ken Haney and his wife Jeannie of New Philadelphia; and a sister-in-law Norma Haney also of New Philadelphia.While Shirley did not have children of her own, she was quite fond of her numerous nieces and nephews, who also survive, and always enjoyed their company.In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley is preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Gary Haney and a step mother, Mary Lou Haney. In accordance with her wishes, Shirley has been cremated. Burial alongside her husband will take place on Monday, March 17, 2008 at 11:00 AM in the East Avenue cemetery with Elder Glenn Carlisle officiating. Following the committal, the family would like to invite guests to join them for a luncheon and a time of fellowship in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia.
