Shelby Jean Schneiter, age 72, of New Philadelphia, died late Saturday, December 25, 2010, in her home, following a brief illness.A daughter of the late Ernest and Jesse T. Akers Meldrum, Shelby was born at Dover on June 15, 1938.She was a 1956 graduate of the former Midvale High School and during the homecoming game of 1955 she was crowned Miss Football.For a number of years Shelby was employed by the state of Ohio Data Processing Center. She enjoyed crocheting, traveling, shopping, listening to 1950’s era music, and spending time with her cat, Maggie May. Additionally, she always looked forward to visits with her grandson.Shelby will be missed by two children; a son, Steve Schneiter of New Philadelphia; a daughter, Amy (David) Geszler of Mentor, Ohio and her grandson, Mike Harmon also of Mentor, Ohio.A brother, Ray (Fran) Meldrum of Carrollton; two sisters, Willodean Everett of Dover and Edith Bair of New Philadelphia as well as numerous nieces and nephews complete the family.In addition to her parents, Shelby was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Tom Everett and Dale Bair.The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 30, 2010, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Gerald Madasz will lead a funeral service celebrating Shelby’s life in the funeral home’s chapel at 7 p.m. In keeping with Shelby’s wishes, cremation will follow. Burial in the Dover Burial Park is planned for a later date.The family requests memorial contributions in Shelby’s name may be directed to Community Hospice, 201 W Third Street, Dover, Ohio 44622.
