Sara Catherine Mizer, 80, of New Philadelphia, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday evening, June 8, 2005, at the Cleveland Clinic.Born August 14, 1924 in Newcomerstown, Ohio, Sara was the daughter of the late Eugene W. and Thelma (Lehman) Sulzener.After graduating from Stone Creek High School, Sara began her life with her husband, Gilbert A. Mizer, whom she married on June 20, 1943. Together they raised a beautiful family. If you knew Sara, it was extremely evident that she was very proud of her family and enjoyed spending time with them. Sara was not only a long-time member of the Grace United Church of Christ, but an active participant in the church’s Women’s Guild, the choir, and as a Sunday School teacher. She also enjoyed her membership in the Stone Creek Garden Club. Many will long remember Sara’s famous canned dill pickles and legendary tomato juice. She also was a talented quilter and embroiderer. Sara is survived by her loving family which includes two daughters, Patty (Danny) McMillin of Kent, and Anne Mizer of New Philadelphia; sons, Charles (Pam) Mizer of New Philadelphia, and William (Lynn) Mizer of Collegeville, Pennsylvania; sisters, Juanita (Harold) Snyder of Sugarcreek, and Mary (Duane) Kerr of Waukegon, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Velma Sulzener of Sharon Center; a brother-in-law, Wayne (Arlene) Mizer of Stone Creek; five grandchildren, Stephanie and Ben Mizer, Chad (Erin) and Mitch Mizer, and Jason (Jennifer) McMillin; and four great-granddaughters, Brooke, Nicole, Hannah, and Lauren McMillin.In addition to her parents, Sara was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene and Jack Sulzener; a sister-in-law, Joan Sulzener; and a grandson.Visitation will be held Sunday, June 12, 2005 at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia from 5 to 8 p.m. A service celebrating Sara’s life will be at the Grace United Church of Christ on Monday beginning at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Janet Matthews officiating. Burial will follow at Ridgecrest Memory Gardens in Dover. Friends are invited back to the church fellowship hall for a reception following the committal service.The family requests memorial contributions in Sara’s memory be made to Grace United Church of Christ Hymnal Fund, P.O. Box 97 Stone Creek, Ohio 43840 or to the American Heart Association, Ohio Valley Affiliate, PO Box 634445, Cincinnati, OH 45263-4445. Sara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Her passion for her family and church was seen, heard, and will be felt for many years to come.
