Santina "Tina" Mathias

Santina “Tina” P. Mathias, age 84, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully, Wednesday, August 2, 2023, while under the care of Crossroads Hospice while in Riverside Manor at Newcomerstown.

Born in the family home at Roswell, Ohio on December 3, 1938, Tina was one of six children born to the late Domenico and Melita DiSanto Pallotto.

She was a 1957 graduate of St. Mary’s in Dennison and on April 8, 1962, married Glen “Jim” Mathias. Together the couple raised one daughter.

Tina worked in the Shoe Department at the former Montgomery Ward before turning her attention to her family and becoming a stay-at-home wife and mother. She enjoyed baking pies and cakes and making popcorn. In her younger years she also helped in the concession stand at her family’s former business, Mathias Raceway. Tina’s faith was nurtured at Jerusalem Church where she has been a member for many years.

In addition to her husband of 61 years, Tina is survived by a daughter, Cindy (Rodney) Flinner of New Philadelphia, two grandchildren, Tiffany (Zack) Neff of Canton and Kyle Bode of Titusville, Florida; a sister, Cilta Griffith of Gallion, Ohio and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Tina was preceded in death by her siblings, Mary Van Sickle, Ann Neiger, Dom Pallotto, and Lucy Wilhelm.

The family will greet guests on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, from 9:30 – 10:30 AM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia, where Rev. Dr. Tom Hendershot will lead a service celebrating Tina’s life in the funeral home’s chapel at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
