Sandra J. Smart

Sandra J. Smart, 54, of New Philadelphia passed away in Community Hospice House, Thursday, March 13, 2014 following a courageous battle with emphysema.

Born in Orrville on February 24, 1960, she was the daughter of Robert and Grace Porter Sr. of New Philadelphia and Ruth Ann Downing DeRush of South Carolina.

She will be deeply missed by her parents, Robert, Grace and Ruth Ann; her husband, Walt Smart of New Philadelphia; her son, Greg (Ashlee) Smart of Tippecanoe; her grandchildren, Paige Smart and Tanner Reynolds, and Greg Jr. and Dustin Smart; her father-in-law, Oscar (Wyema) Smart of New Philadelphia; her siblings, Patti (Brad) Reynolds of New Philadelphia, Robert (Tammy) Porter, Jr. of Dover, Russ Porter of Dover, Cheryl (Tom) Baker of Massillon, Randi (Dave) Muck of Avon Lake, Charlie (Mandy) Porter of Strasburg, and Daniel (Shirley) Porter of Dover; two step-brothers, David DeRush of North Carolina and Michael (Amanda) DeRush of Indiana; a step-sister, Teresa DeRush of South Carolina; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Sandy was preceded in death by her daughter, Tina Marie Householder on July 6, 2009; her mother-in-law, Florence Smart; her sister, Debbie Porter; and her step-sister, Debbie Maze.

Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. A service will be held in the funeral home Monday at 2 p.m. with burial to follow at St. Jacob’s Cemetery.
