Sandra K. Engler

July 11, 1948 — February 8, 2025

New Philadelphia

Sandra K. Engler, 76, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2025, at Ohio’s Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on July 11, 1948, in Dover, Ohio, Sandra was the daughter of the late Ernest and Virginia (Bucher) Lax. A proud graduate of New Philadelphia High School, Sandra carried an adventurous spirit and a heart full of kindness throughout her life. She believed in the power of love, the importance of helping others, and the beauty of simple joys.

Sandra’s life was dedicated to caring for those around her. Sitting on her original 1984 red Honda scooter, ensuring the safety of children as a devoted crossing guard at Central Elementary, she always greeted everyone with warmth and a smile. Alongside her husband, she found joy in welcoming families at the entrance gate of the Tuscarawas County Fair, making it a place of laughter and shared memories. Whether she was working as a sorter at U.S. Ceramic Tile in East Sparta or lending a helping hand in the community, she brought kindness and joy to every interaction. Her presence made people feel safe, seen, and loved.

She had an unwavering love for her community and her faith. As a member of NewPointe Community Church in Dover, she found strength in worship and connection. She also honored those who served their country as a proud member of the New Philadelphia Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1445 Auxiliary, always ready to lend a hand and show gratitude to those who sacrificed for others.

Sandra’s heart overflowed with love for her family, friends, and even strangers who quickly became friends. She was a devoted wife, a cherished mother, a proud grandmother and great-grandmother, and a sister who always had an open heart and a listening ear. She found happiness in the little things—cheering on her beloved Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes, dancing through life in her Zumba classes, and sharing stories that made those around her laugh and feel at home.

Her soul was drawn to the peaceful presence of lighthouses. She admired their strength, their ability to guide others through storms, and the sense of hope they brought—much like the way she lived her life. Sandra was a beacon of light for so many, always leading with love, kindness, and an unwavering faith in the goodness of people.

She is survived by her loving husband, Rick D. Engler; her two sons, Rich Engler of Barnhill and Douglas (Pok) Engler of Columbus; five grandchildren, Kaylena Engler, Courtney Best, Byron Best, June Best, and Oliver Engler; a great-grandchild, Cainian Kempisty; her sister, Cheryl (Berry) Shepherd of New Philadelphia; and her brother, Greg (Ida) Adkins of Georgia.

She is now reunited in heaven with those she loved who passed before her, including her parents; her beloved daughter, Jenny Engler; her sister, Bonnie Sprinkle; and her granddaughter, Ambreonna Engler.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, February 16, 2025, from 12 to 1 PM at Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia. A memorial service celebrating Sandra’s life and legacy will follow at 1 PM in the funeral home’s chapel.
