Samuel Zellers Neibert, 81, of New Philadelphia, died Sunday, February 22, 2009 in Union Hospital at Dover following a short illness.A son of the late Samuel and Amelia Ruth (Devore) Neibert, Sam was born June 4, 1927 at New Philadelphia.He was a graduate of New Philadelphia High School. Following graduation, Sam enlisted with the United States Army. He served in the European Theatre during World War II as a paratrooper. Sam was employed with Gradall at New Philadelphia and he retired as a Mechanic after 35 years of service.Sam attended the First Church of the Nazarene at New Philadelphia and he served as a volunteer for Hospice of Tuscarawas County.He was an avid fisherman and gardener. He enjoyed golfing as well, especially when his wife, Catherine, would drive the golf cart for him. He and Catherine also enjoyed traveling together.He is survived by his loving wife, Catherine (Robinson) Thompson-Neibert whom he married on December 14, 2002; his children, Karen “Kay” (Bob) Reardon of Dellroy, Dotty VanScoy of Dennison, Brian (Jonnie) Neibert of Uraguay and Trudy Neibert of Florence, South Carolina; step children, Debra (Keith) Calhoun of Dennison, Jeffrey (Lola) Thompson of Bellefonte, Pennsylvania and Stacy (Don) Beamer of Stone Creek; a son-in-law, Roger Dupler of Canton; grandchildren, Shelly Ball, Lori Grand and Tammy Dupler, DeeAnne VanScoy, Samantha Pearson and Bobby Reardon; step grandchildren, Patrick, Matthew and Jayson Calhoun, Debbie, Tisha, Cathy and Ashley Thomspon, Donald Edward Beamer and Evett, Everett, Jonathan and Zachary; numerous great grandchildren and step great grandchildren and two brothers, Myron (Phyllis) Neibert of Ashland, Ohio and Melvin (Shirley) Neibert of Wainwright.Sam was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Helyn (Hawk) Neibert; a daughter, Lynn Dupler; a stepson, Steve Thompson and three brothers, David, Glen and Garret Neibert.Friends may call on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Harry Milligan officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover. Following the committal service, a memorial reception will be held in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia.Contributions may be made in Sam’s memory to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 West Third Street, Dover, OH 44622 or to a charity of one’s choice.
