Ruth Ellen (Haver) Spring, age 87 of New Philadelphia passed away on Monday, Aug 3, 2009 in Amberwood Manor at New Philadelphia.Born May 25, 1922 in Newcomerstown, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Leda (Opphile) Haver. She was a 1940 graduate of Newcomerstown High School.Ruth married Gerald Raymond Spring of New Philadelphia on June 1, 1941 at Newcomerstown, Ohio. Together, they celebrated 68 years of marriage.Ruth was a life-long member of United Methodist Church (formally United Brethren Church) of Newcomerstown. She attended First Christian Church in New Philadelphia and St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Oldtown Valley.Ruth was a dedicated and loving homemaker throughout her life. She had the ability to make her friends and family feel loved. Whether it was providing a meal or staying in touch during a difficult time, she cared for others in a compassionate way.Sewing was among her favorite pastimes, as was gardening and collecting quotations and poems that spoke to her in a meaningful way. She and Gerald also enjoyed traveling the United States and Canada creating lasting memories with their family.Gerald and Ruth reared three children including; Priscilla (husband, Charles) Williams of Grove City, Oh., Gerald Allen “Jerry” (wife, Betsy) Spring of Dover, Oh. and Hallie Sue (husband, William) Hawthorne of New Philadelphia.She will also be dearly missed by her grandchildren, Amy Sue (husband, Ernie) Hernandez of Grove City, Oh., Jeramy C. Spring of Orville, Oh., Heather E. Spring of Canton, Oh., Valerie (husband, Michael) Hoffman of Cuyahoga Falls, Oh., and Shelly (husband, Eric) Prysi of New Philadelphia; her great-granddaughter Angel Lynn Hernandez of Grove City and soon to be born great grandson (Valerie & Mike’s first child).She is survived by her husband, Gerald and sister, Shirley (Sam) Appis of Coshocton, Oh.; sisters-in-law; Alice Haver of Tipp City, Oh., and Mary Haver of Tucson, AZ, a niece; Norma Schreiner who visited Ruth often, and numerous other nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her brothers, Ralph, Robert, John, Kenneth, Harold “Jake” Haver, and her sister, Wilma Johnson.Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Thursday, August 6, 2009 from 6 to 9 p.m.The Rev. Hugh B. Berry will lead a service celebrating Ruth’s life Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will follow the service in East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia. Following the committal service, friends and family are invited to the Geib Family Center, located adjacent to the funeral home, where the St. Peter’s Lutheran church family will provide a meal.Memorial contributions may be directed to either St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 3640 Oldtown Valley Rd. SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.I shall pass through this world but once.
