Ruth O. Gibson, 101, of Dover, died peacefully on Sunday, September 21, 2014 in Country Club Retirement Center.
She was born in Dalton, Ohio on April 13, 1913 to the late Mary (Kurzen) Ober and Elmer Ober. Ruth graduated from Dalton High School and the College of Wooster.
In 1938, she married William Clarke Gibson of New Philadelphia. He preceded her in death in 1955. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Lois Flanagan.
Ruth is survived by her two daughters, Christine (Stephen) Beauchamp of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas and Elizabeth (John) Jarvey of Cleveland Heights, Ohio.
She is also survived by four grandchildren, David Jarvey, Saira Jarvey Anderson, Kristen Beauchamp Willcut and Todd Beauchamp and her great grandchildren, Andrew and Jacob Willcut, Kelsey and Trey Beauchamp and Lilyana, Taj and Priya Jarvey.
Ruth loved her family and friends dearly and was a friend to all animals. Her years as the assistant librarian and children’s librarian at the Tuscarawas County Public Library gave her great satisfaction as she helped countless others to enjoy reading as she did herself. Many remember her as the “Story Lady”. She was also an accomplished pianist who loved music her entire life.
A funeral service celebrating Ruth’s life will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory, 116 2nd Street NE, New Philadelphia, with Pastor Brian Flood officiating with burial following in East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Following the committal service, a luncheon will be held in the Geib Family Center adjacent to the funeral home.
