Ruth M. Roth

March 30, 1930 — February 10, 2009

Ruth M. Roth, age 78, of Port Washington, passed into the closer presence of her Lord early Tuesday morning, February 10, 2009, after a period of declining health. Born at Fry’s Valley March 30, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Samuel J. and Cecelia M. Wenger Miller. Ruth graduated from Gnadenhutten High School with the class of 1948, and was a longtime member of the St. Paul’s United Church of Christ at Port Washington. On March 26, 1950, Ruth married Lloyd Roth, and for fifty-six of their fifty-nine years, they have made their home on the family farm outside of Port Washington. Ruth enjoyed life on the farm and delighted in entertaining guests. “Mom had an open door policy at home” described her youngest daughter “it didn’t matter if you were passing through to say hello, or visiting for the day, mom loved to entertain and was never more than a few moments away from serving a meal.” Throughout her life, Ruth’s gracious hospitality was conveyed to visitors from near and far, including guests traveling internationally. She’ll be remembered for leading her life as a fine example, for her listening ear, and for her caring attitude toward others. Together with her husband Lloyd, of nearly fifty-nine years, Ruth reared a family that includes four daughters; Marilyn (husband Jeff) Stocker, of Gnadenhutten, Coleen (husband Scott) McMath of Westerville, and Kathy (husband Glenn) Carlisle, of Winfield and the late Amy Grimm. Her daughters learned from their mother how to make their houses a home, and better yet, a haven, for friends and family members alike to rest, take comfort, and be nurtured. She’ll be sadly missed by eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a sister; Mae (husband Richard) Bethel of Coshocton, and a son-in-law; Tim Grimm of Dundee. In addition to her parents and daughter, Ruth is preceded in death by two sisters; Catherine Schupp and Grace Hoffman, and four brothers; Lester, Homer, Roy and Oliver Miller. Friends are invited to call Thursday, February 12, 2009 from 4PM â?? 7PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Friday afternoon at 1, Dr. Robert E. Buckley of the Port Washington United Church of Christ will lead Celebration of Ruth’s Life and Resurrection, at the church, 114 North High Street, Port Washington, OH 43837. At Mrs. Roth’s request, Dr. Buckley will be assisted by her son-in-law, Glenn Russell Carlisle. A reception for family and guests will follow in the church fellowship hall. Interment in Gnadenhutten-Clay Union Cemetery will be private. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
