Ruth J. Brick, age 91 of Dover passed away February 7, 2010 in Country Club Retirement Campus at Dover following a period of declining health.Born February 25, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Emma (Fahrny) Torgler.A lifelong resident of New Philadelphia, Ruth was a gentle soul, sharing her love for life with all she met. Her family was her pride and joy and she always was engaged in their activities, lending constant support and love to them. She spent her lifetime as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.Ruth was a member of the First United Church of Christ in New Philadelphia and was a volunteer for Union Hospital at Dover and also an employee of their gift shop most recently. She also gave of her time as an election day poll worker in New Philadelphia.Ruth’s husband, Milton Brick, was her companion and love throughout her lifetime until his death on June 18, 1988. Together, they raised 6 children including, her daughters, Diane (Harold) Davis of Marysville, O., Deborah (Homer) Hartke of Dover, and the late Judy Brick; and her sons, Fritz (April) Brick, Terry (Paula) Brick and Gary Brick, all of New Philadelphia. She will also be deeply missed by her grandchildren, Matthew (Monica) Davis of Cygent, O., Kevin (Esther) Davis of San Diego, Ca., Julie (Tim) Meier of Columbus, Lisa (Clint) Troyer of Sugarcreek, Fritz Brick II of New Philadelphia, Derek (Christine) Brick of Strasburg, Heath (Rebekah) Brick of New Lexington, O., Ginger (Bobby) Cooper of New Philadelphia, Jennifer (Jason) Chilman of Hamilton, O., Laura (Steve) Welker of Columbus, and Melissa Blakely Â? not only a granddaughter but a loving and compassionate caregiver and friend to her grandmother, of New Philadelphia. Eight great-grandchildren complete the family including Austin Davis, Lindsay Davis, Sarah Meier, Lexi Troyer, Chett Troyer, Rachel Brick, Nathan Cooper and Alyssa Ruth Chilman. Also, three additional great-grandchildren are expected in the near future.In addition to her parents, husband, and daughter, Ruth was preceded in death by her sister, Marie Thomas, and her daughter-in-law, Ginny Brick.Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 from 4 to 8 p.m. A service celebrating Ruth’s life will be held Thursday, February 11 at 10 a.m. in the First United Church of Christ, 201 Fair Ave., New Philadelphia with Pastors Jeff Gerber and Jill Lovett officiating. Burial will be held in East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
