Ruth Irene Morrison, 72, of New Philadelphia, died unexpectedly early Saturday morning, February 16, 2008 in Union Hospital at Dover.Born in Dover on June 27, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Edward A. and Ruth (Harper) Berndt. After completing her formal education at New Philadelphia High School, she spent the remainder of her lifetime as a devoted wife to her husband, William “Bill” Morrison whom she wed in Indiana on September 18, 1953.Ruth enjoyed working crossword puzzles and also playing Bingo.She was a dedicated mother always available with a listening ear to her children who include, Ruth A. (Les) Kinsey of Stone Creek, Rick A. Morrison of Deersfield, O., Rhonda F. (Jerry) Steiner of Canton, Renee A. (Dave) Misko of Tappan Lake, Robert A. Morrison of Dover, Roger A. Morrison of Midvale, and Rae A. Smith of Tippecanoe. Ruth will also be sadly missed by 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was eagerly anticipating the birth of three additional great-grandchildren. Also surviving include her siblings, Anna L. (William) Duncan of New Philadelphia, Edward E. (Becky) Berndt of Newcomerstown, and Kathy M. (Jim) Wilds of Dover. Ruth’s loyal companion, her Chihuahua Brandy, will deeply miss her along with her cats.In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her mother and father-in-law, her son-in-law, Carl “Pete” Smith, and her great-grandson, Braxton Morrison.Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory on Monday, February 18, 2008 from 4 to 7 p.m. with a service celebrating Ruth’s life immediately following at 7 p.m. The Rev. Bud Milligan will officiate the service. Friends and family are invited to the Geib Family Center, located adjacent to the funeral home following the service where a reception will take place. In keeping with Ruth’s wishes, cremation will follow the service.
