Ruth I. Canty

Ruth I. Canty, 85, of New Philadelphia, died Saturday, December 1, 2007 in Park Village Health Care Center at Dover following a period of declining health.A daughter of the late Louis and Zoe (Fowls) Lanzer, Ruth was born December 17, 1921 at Dover, Ohio.Ruth graduated from Dover High School and on June 29, 1946, she married the love of her life, Walter Henry Canty, in Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church at Dover. The couple shared 57 years of marriage together before Walter’s passing on January 26, 2004.Over the years, Ruth had worked at Dover Appliance and Miracle Adhesives. She was a lifelong member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church at Dover. She served as a Sunday School Teacher, she was a member of the altar guild as well as a member of WELCA and she sang in the church choir for over 50 years.She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Sandy Gibb and her husband Jim of Dover, Jim Lanzer and his wife Betty of Sherrodsville, Barbara Summers of Columbus, Ohio, Jerry Bigler of Austin, Texas, Brenda Noe of Columbus, Ohio, David Lanzer and his wife Sally of Mobile, Alabama and Steve Bigler of New Philadelphia. Ruth is also survived by numerous great nieces and great nephews.Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Walter; a sister, Martha Jane Bigler and a brother, James Louis Lanzer.The family will receive guests on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Ruth’s life will be held on Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at 11 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Chapel with Rev. Jim Lewis officiating. Following the service, Ruth will be buried alongside her husband Walter in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
