Ruth Gowins

Ruth E. (Neiger) Gowins, 94, formerly of Stone Creek, died Tuesday, December 11, 2018, in Hennis Care Centre at Dover after a period of declining health.

Ruth was born September 19, 1924 at Stone Creek, the second daughter and fourth child of Harry Edmund and Serena (Miller) Neiger.

She attended the Angel Valley School and the Stone Creek Jefferson local school. She was employed for a time as a domestic worker in area homes. In September 1949, she married Dale E. Gowins. They made their home. rearing three children on the family farm near Stone Creek until she moved to New Philadelphia in 1977.

She is survived by her children, a daughter, Diane (Cliff) Shaw of Gnadenhutten and son Dale E. (Vickie) Gowins, Jr. of Stone Creek; her granddaughter, Heidi Murphy of Belmont, West Virginia; four grandsons, Kenneth (Sallyanne) Gowins of Seale, Alabama, Joshua (Nikita) Gowins of Columbus, Travis (Bobbie) Murphy of Grain Valley, Missouri, and Chad (Brittney) Murphy of St. Mary’s, West Virginia.

Also surviving are 10 great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Emily, and Liam Gowins, Timmy Gowins, Isaac and Amelia Murphy, Gabe Coe, Larry Murphy, and Raylan and Jayce Higgins; four sisters, Helen Hanni, Betty Welshenbaugh, Esther Gowins and Doris Harper as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was proceeded in death by five brothers, Raymond, Charles, Glen, John and Ralph and a son Timothy D. Gowins.

The family will receive guests on Sunday, December 16, 2018 from 2-5 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Ruth’s son, Dale E. Gowins, Jr. will lead a celebration of her life on Monday, December 17, 2018 at 2 PM in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Following the services, all are invited to share in a time of food and fellowship in the Geib Family Center.
